  • This little pot and saucer, with spoon and decorative lid, were handmade in Italy. Sometimes called a mustard pot, it was usually put on the breakfast table to hold jam for toast or scones. The saucer was used simultaneously as a spoon rest and drip catch, but it also made it easier to pass the little pot up and down a table. The saucer, glazed a high-gloss white, has been shaped as leaf with low-relief ridges acting as the leaf veins, the the outer trim coming around and ending in a pseudo stem at one end. Around its edge, it has been bordered with hand-shaped pressed-on green-glazed oak leaves, lightly colored to emphasis the peaks and valleys of the leaf itself. The pot is also glazed white and features more oak leaves around the mouth of the jar, as well as a finger-rest knob on one side, shaped like the knob on a tree. The pot is an oblong shape, similar to that of an oak acorn, and ridged. The lid fits neatly into the mouth of the jar and features a yellow-glazed acorn, flanked by two larger leaves that act as both decoration and functional knob. The spoon is actually mold-cast, evidenced by the sharper lines and more perfect shapes of the bowl and handle. It features a gently curving handle and deep, perfectly round bowl. There is a divot along the mouth rim of the jar for the spoon, to be used as both rest while in use and for storage between uses. The jar, with lid, measures 5 1/2" high, 6" in diameter, and 3 1/2" wide at the mouth. The lid measures 3 1/2" long, 3" wide, and 2" high. The saucer measures 6" in diameter and 1/2" high, while the spoon measures 5" long, with a 1 1/2" diameter bowl. They all weigh approximately 1 lb, as a whole.
