  • This vintage re-strike of the popular Herrings Fox Hunting Scenes Plate "Breaking Cover" was most likely done int he 1940s, after mass market printing had become more widespread. The original prints were struck from engraved steel plates don by J. Harris, printed by a variety of publishers,and then hand-colored. Harris directly copied the engraving from the painting done bu J.F. Herring SENR (There were a father and son working on similar scenes at the same time.) This piece was printed by the New York Graphics Society, "Fine Art Publishers," as part of a limited edition run. While the number of prints made is unknown, they usually in sequences of 500 to 2000. This piece has been numbered 742. The entire framed print measures 30" long, 22" high, and 1" deep. It is matted and framed, with a wire for hanging.This item is in fair to good condition with noticeable wear to the frame and fading and discoloration to the matting as well as the print itself.
