  • This gorgeous bronze grouping is a recasting of French artist Isidore Jules Bonheur's (1827-1901) famous "Jockey a Cheval" ("Derby Winner") bronze statue. This lovely and imposing piece depicts a jockey stroking the excited horse that looks as if it's about breakaway into a canter. The horse shows great detail, displaying hand-chased chisel marks throughout its muscled and prominently-veined figure, as well as on the bridle, saddle, braided mane and wind-blown tail. The jockey displays a smoother, multi-tone patina on his face and attire that complements the darker horse body- giving this piece a great depth of color and dimension. The large platform base is signed by the artist, but the signature is difficult to decipher. The entire sculpture stands 59" high, measures 68" long and 24" wide. This bronze jockey and horse grouping is in great condition with practically no signs of damage, though there are a few areas where the bronze has been buffed to a brighter shine.
