This set of cast-resin and pen shell floor lamps, or torcheres, were manufactured in Indonesia by Maitland-Smith in the late 1980s. The bases are cast-resin classical Ionic columns with Hellenistic style urns placed on the abacus of each column. The urns are fitted with high-copper bronze frames with the body of the urn being comprised of brown, cream, and gold colored pen shells (a type of abalone) fitted to a light resin back in a scaled pattern around the width of the urn. Inside, there is a single fitting for a standard, modern bulb (bulbs not included) and a 4 ft cord ends from the base of the column, ending in two-prong plug. The light in each is turned on with a small selector light switch on the cord that has only two positions. The pieces each measure 76 1/2" high, 16" wide, 16" deep, and weigh approximately 75-100 lbs. This set of floor lamps are in very good condition, with only minor signs of wear from age and use along the base edges. All the shell work seems to be in very good condition. Please consult all images and message with any questions.
