  • This large antique butcher's block table was made for a butcher that was a part of the Society of Meat Sellers and Butchers in Lille, France. It was most likely manufactured and assembled by hand around the early 20th century, between 1925-1935. The guild is still active today with a website and directory of butchers and cured meat sellers in the city of Lille. The table is made mostly of maple with dark cherry half-twist molding accentuating and divide the top and bottom of piece. It features a double, divided parquet top, steel brackets on all four corners, trestle legs, and a single drawer with brass hardware. The drawer is a simple affair but with gorgeous Art Deco style stepped trim along its front and the lovely loops and swirls of Art Nouveau in the brass bracket and pull for the drawer pull. There is a brass plaque above the drawer that read "Societe des Charcutiers et Bouchers Charcutiers - Lille, France - Halles Centrales." This piece measures 38" high, 48" long, 24" wide, and weighs close to 275 lbs. It is in very good condition but there are the typical signs of cosmetic wear of age and use visible in the parquet top and feet as well as what appears to be another brass plaque or plate missing from the back of the item. Please consult the images and message with any questions.
