This chair is from the early 20th century and exhibits all the classical signs of a late Victorian style Chippendale. Carved from solid mahogany, it features the ornately carved yoked crest rail and back splats, the cabriole legs ending in highly-detailed ball-and-claw feet in the fore and the Marlborough leg in the back, and the variety of carved and molded accents expected of a piece from that era. There is some Queen Anne influence in the front with the half barley twist relief carving and the floral emphasis on the legs and crest rail. This item has what is called a drop seat, which literally "drops" into place, all the better for changing the upholstery. All three available pieces have been recently reupholstered by a professional in a thick-napped, textured fabric in a brick red. All three pieces are in excellent shape, although there are small signs of wear due to age and use on thefeet and aprons. They measure 38" tall, 22 1/2" wide, and 18 1/2" deep.
