This vintage hand-blown glass float was made and used in Japanese commercial shipping and was probably hand-harvested after coming ashore. It was made by pouring molten glass into a wooden mold (for a more uniform size and shape) and blowing until it fit snugly against the molds sides. Afterward, the blowpipe is removed and a "button" of recycled glass is used to seal the hole before the float is placed in a cooling oven. Due to the the ocean and wind patterns in the Pacific, most floats are estimated to be a minimum of 10 years old, if not closer to 30 or more.

These floats measure between 8" and 9" in diameter and weigh approximately 5 lbs. We have six of these items and each one is different - one is missing the netting and another is a very dark green as opposed to the tradition bottle green.  Please let us know if you specifically want one of these two items before making your purchase! All the items are in good condition, but show the wear of its former life.  The glass is scuffed in places and still dirty. Please consult all images and message with any questions.
