This turn-of-the-century cast bronze floor lamp is a gorgeous example of the Art Nouveau style movement that became in popular during the first 20 years into the 20th century. It features a twisted rope designed pole with an octagonal knob at its center the rises to the gorgeously fluid foliate design of the pole crest and descends to the ball and socket "gooseneck" hinge and shade. In the opposite direction, the pole terminates in rounded-edge square footed base with floral brackets. The semi-domed base features a low-relief design that echoes the floral and foliate work on the pole crest and feet. The gooseneck is a ball and socket joint that allows the shade to rotate 6" in all directions. It is unclear from the connections if this was original to the piece or a later update. The shade is a narrow cylinder of cream-colored blown glass that has been hand-painted with a simple, repeating scene of a junk on the water at sunset. It measures 5" long and 3 1/2" in diameter, with the fitting being 3". The lamp measures 58 1/2" high, 12" wide (this includes the arch and shade,) and the base is an 8"x 8" square. The floor lamp was updated not long ago with a modern cord and socket and can take most standard light bulbs. This piece is in very good condition, with only minor signs of wear to the base and a slight chip or two to250 the shade. Please consult all images and message with any questions.
