  • This antique novelty lamp was manufactured from mahogany, brass, and opaline glass sometime in the 1940s. These types of floor lamps were very popular around that time but, usually, they had a single pedestal base and a glass table and were used as a combination of reading light and drink tray. They heralded the public's interest in "multi-use" furniture that could save space in increasingly-smaller livings spaces and were more affordable to the newborn middle class.  The lamp tables went out of vogue in the mid-1950s at the advent of Mid-Century Modern. This piece has a more sophisticated design with its trefoil, cabriole legs and elongated padfeet, solid mahogany table top with filigree brass edging, and beautifully turned mahogany pole. It has its original inverted opaline glass fixture with cross-hatch texturing and can take most modern bulbs (bulbs are not included.) It measure 56" tall with the table measuring 18" in diameter. The legs are 20" in diameter. It comes with the original six foot cord with two-prong plug. This vintage piece is in very good condition with only minor signs of wear visible on the wood surfaces of the feet and table top due to age-appropriate use.
